I have used speech to text but not for writing. I was just playing around with it.

It’s called voice-in Speech-to-Text Dictation. You can download it from the Chrome Store. The free version is a little limiting, but you get 60 Minutes of free dictation, and it literally writes it in Google Docs as you speak it.
