A lot of "writers" quit. I did a similar purge on Twitter of Medium writers.

…ately, the more I scrolled, the more I realized I had more than 100 zombies or ghosts following me. Most of them were individuals who started on Medium last year, quit writing, and let their accounts lapse. Another chunk of them were the spammy types trying to market or sell services.
